Wanted: PowerBuilder Developer

We’re looking to hire an experienced PowerBuilder Developer, to join our expanding development team.

Salary: from £50k per annum plus substantial benefits

We are a staff-owned company based in Clerkenwell in central London. We supply and support around 300 organisations with our well-known TRAMPS, BlueBox, o6ix and Estateman products. These products are renowned for their rock-solid reliability and extensive functionality.

We’re also one of the leading innovators in our sector, with a staff of 60. Our products contain sophisticated tools to automate processes, analyse information and integrate effectively with other applications. In recent years the development of Mojo web apps, which work seamlessly with our existing products, has seen significant growth, and this is expected to increase over the coming years.

About the role

The job involves the support and maintenance of our client server products, TRAMPS, BlueBox and o6ix, written mainly using PowerBuilder and SQL Server Stored Procedures with Microsoft SQL Server as the database. As well as support and maintenance, the role involves ongoing development of the products when required – for example, following legislative changes.

Responsibilities
  • Perform analysis and programming tasks according to company standards
  • Produce functional and technical specifications based on user requirements specifications and change request documents
  • Provide software quotations and estimates for customer requirements as requested while endeavouring to improve accuracy of such quotations and estimates
  • Mentor and lead other staff, when appropriate
  • Assume responsibility for quality and timeliness of deliverables for both your own work and that of those working for you
  • Operate as both a development and support resource as necessary
  • Provide onsite services to customers as required
  • Provide accurate and complete timesheets
  • Conduct oneself at all times in a manner that reflects Trace Values as defined by the Company Mission and Values Statement
  • When requested, to provide assistance to other areas of development within Trace Solutions
Skills Required

Business

  • Awareness and ability to understand and discuss the business processes that the development software must support, in the case of the Property Management and Accounts processes
  • Ability to be credible to customers, internal and external, at all levels

Technical

  • Ability to prepare a detailed Programming Specification based on user requirements
  • Expert in PowerBuilder development
  • Extensive knowledge of SQL
  • Ability to accurately estimate time required to complete technical tasks
  • In depth appreciation of the full software application development cycle
  • Can produce complex documents using MS Office tool set
